Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows (SITM) is part of an international organization of business and professional women. The goal of Soroptimist is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

Soroptimists are women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. Members represent a wide array of professions, including doctors, attorneys, teachers, chief executive officers of companies, business owners and government officials.

A Soroptimist is a leader in her community. She believes that by joining with other women engaging in awareness, advocacy and action in the service of her community and society, she can make the world a better place for humankind.

Many noteworthy women have been Soroptimists, including a United States Supreme Court justice; the first woman to serve as the mayor of a large city in the United States; and the 1962 recipient of the United States President’s Award for Distinguished Civilian Service.

SITM is part of the Sierra Nevada Region, which is part of SI of the Americas Federation, which in turn is part of Soroptimist International. There are almost 90,000 Soroptimists in about 125 countries and territories who contribute time and financial support to community–based and international projects that benefit women and girls.
