“Imagine If…every girl owned at least one dress”
is the international project adopted by Governor Vicki Watson, Soroptimist’s Sierra NevadaRegion (SNR). Governor Vicki is asking clubs to make dresses for the non-profit organization Hope 4 Women International for their “Dress A Girl Around the World” project, dressagirlaroundtheworld.com.
What’s the project?
In many disadvantaged areas of the world girls are often the last ones to receive clothing – be it new or used. This not only makes it hard to live but also makes girls more vulnerable to sexual predators. Hope 4 Women International has been delivering colorful yet strong cotton dresses to girls throughout the world since 2006. Each has a DAG label on the outside to indicate that the girl is being watched over – and thus make her a less attractive target.
Get Involved
Our club enthusiastically supports this project and is busy sewing dresses. Options to help include:
- Sewing dresses which will be collected by Region and delivered to an Ambassador for the Dress A Girl Around the World Project or dresses will be taken directly to a country in need if we know of someone traveling to such a country.
- If you are a non-sewer, you can gather donations of thick cotton and/or monetary donations for women who can sew.
If you want to help please contact [email protected] and we will be in touch.
