Thank you for your interest in Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows
Since 1978 SITM has been working in northern Nevada to help people – mostly women and girls – help themselves move toward a better life . We donate almost $100,000 annually to scholarships and other community and Soroptimist projects.
Our priorities are:
Scholarships and programs for youth
Thanks to Youth – This annual fundraising luncheon awards over $10,000 in youth scholarships to high school seniors. This luncheon also recognizes young “unsung heroes” in our community with shopping sprees.
Dream It – Be It – SITM partnersg with the Washoe County School District to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs to “at-risk” elementary school girls in the Truckee Meadows.
Making a Difference for Women – Along with community partners, SITM hosts an annual daylong seminar to provide job skill coaching for unemployed and under-employed women. Seminar graduates become eligible for grants to help them in their careers.
Scholarships and programs for women
Dreams Moving Forward – SITM provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate women who have interrupted their academic studies and who now wish to continue or begin the pursuit of a college degree.
Live Your Dream Award – Eligible applicants must provide the primary financial support for their families, be enrolled in or accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program, and must demonstrate financial need.
Nepal – In partnership with the people of Thulipokhari, Nepal, SITM helped build, and now maintains, a dormitory for girls who previously had to walk two to four hours one way to reach classes. In addition, in 2003 SITM introduced a Micro Lending Program for villagers in Thulipokhari to fund small loans for families to purchase animals and vital seeds to assist in agriculture, improve nutrition and provide a source of income.
